Winston Churchill said, "We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give."
Volunteers at the Libby Care Center were recognized for their donations of time and talents at a luncheon Monday, April 30.
Verna Johnson, activity director at the center since 1986, said she believes there were nearly 100 volunteers working at the center this last year and 20 of those volunteers were men. Johnson, who dropped back to part time in March, was applauded by the volunteers, many of whom have worked under her for a number of years. The room filled with more applause as current activity administrator, Kandis Peterson, recognized pastors, musicians, fixers, movers, greeters, readers, Red Hatters and many other volunteers.
Verna, Kandis and other administrative personnel served lunch and poured beverages while the volunteers enjoyed a musical treat by the Libby High School Jazz Band. Lasagna, salad and huckleberry ice cream sundaes were enjoyed by all, and the volunteers received a gift bags with tokens of appreciation. Centerpieces on each table were given as door prizes.
Administrator Debbie Edwards told the volunteers they are setting an example for Libby's youth, such as the teens in the Jazz Band, to give back to their community through volunteerism.
