Howard Leighty

Longtime Troy logger Howard L. Leighty, 59, died Monday, March 26, 2007, at Libby Care Center.

He was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Spokane to Bruce and Ilah Smith Leighty.

Raised in Troy, Howard graduated from Troy High School in 1966.

A Vietnam veteran, he entered the Navy in 1967 and served honorably until being discharged and returning to Troy.

Howard worked with his family at Leighty Brothers Mill & Logging Co. in Troy.

He enjoyed snowmobile riding and racing, hunting, fishing and classic cars, with his pride and joy being his 1965 Corvette. Howard belonged to Troy Cruzers Car Club and frequently participated in Ignite the Nites in Libby.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1993, his mother in 2000 and brother, Ron Leighty in 1996.

Survivors include his children, Darwin Leighty and his wife, Erin, and LeeJay Leighty, all of Troy, and Michelle Leighty of Redmond, Ore; grandchildren Hunter, Jayden and Jaylee; and nieces and nephews Shinae, Breezy, Larinda and Dustin.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Troy Church of God with the Rev. Gene Bushnell officiating. Interment will follow at Troy Cemetery under the direction of Nelson and Vial Funeral Home.
