In the spirit of the team
To the Editor:
There is a small group of greatness amongst us and many don't even know they exist. They are dedicated, courageous and talented; they strive as a team that has no weak link and have proven to the entire state of Montana that they are the best. They are; Chelsea Ahart, Dillon Berget, David Brooks, Crawford Denning, Jamie Gilden, James Hare, Jeremy Helmrick, Alias Lapka, Burock Lapka, Greg Lundin, Cree Maloney, Talis Martin, Kolter McKinney, Kevin Peel, Andrew Peterson, Sam Popin, Chris Skaggs, Daniel Webster and Mechelle Wison, collectively known as the 2007 Kootenai Rapids soccer Team. Led by coaches Charlie Webster, Mark Peterson and Ruth Miller, they hold an impressive 10 -0 season and recently traveled to Butte to take the Montana State Cup, 4 - 0. At ages 13 and 14, they are undefeatable, both on and off the field. I have known most of the team members for many years; each year their leadership and determination grows helping strengthen who they will become in the future. The Kootenai Rapids is organized by the Lincoln County Youth Soccer Association and mostly funded by the parents of the players. The faithful support of the parents is amazing; everyone taking a part of all the "behind the scenes" team tasks and transporting their athletes around the state. It is fun to be part of such an enthusiastic group. However, there has been no media coverage of these players and their impressive records of success. There were no large crowds at their home games. We are always taught to applaud excellence, well here's your chance. The Kootenai Rapids will be marching in the upcoming Libby Logger Days Parade proudly wearing their Montana State Cup Championship Medals on their chests. So show them that their community is proud of their victories and cheer them on.
