| July 30, 2007 12:00 AM

Fern Chapel, 68, a longtime Troy resident, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on July 25, 1938 in Wilder, Idaho to Virgil and Pearl Gentry. Fern married Delbert (Pat) Chapel in 1956 and they made their home in Troy, along with their five sons.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dana; and her parents; and one brother. She is survived by four sons: Del and his wife Tina, of Troy; Dee, of Ketchikan, Alaska; Dean and his wife Carrie, also of Troy; and Rufe and his wife Shannon, of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Smallwood of Eureka; Jo Chapel of Troy and Doris Steward of Darby and her husband Bob; and one brother Everett Gentry of Boise Valley, Idaho.

She was a much beloved mother and grandma and always had a hug for her grandbabies. She will be missed greatly and we look forward to the day when we will meet her again in heaven.

Fern's character and strength during her illness was an inspiration to us all, as was the loving care she received from her husband, Pat.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 28 at the Church of God in Troy.
