Joyce Olsen Rogers

Joyce Olsen Rogers, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Libby Care Center.

Joyce was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Parker, Idaho, the second of Albert A. and Agness E. Hobbs Olsens' five children.

She attended school in St. Anthony, Idaho, until eighth grade.

Joyce was a waitress and worked in the potato fields of Idaho.

She married John Briggs at age 18; he died in a hunting accident in 1958. Shortly after, Joyce learned she was expecting the couple's fourth child.

Several years later, she married Ed Atchley and they moved from Newdale, Idaho, to Libby, where both worked for J. Neils Lumber Co.

She and Ed later divorced.

Joyce remained with J. Neils and its successors St. Regis, Champion and Stimson for 25 years.

During this time, she married John Rogers and later divorced.

Joyce loved to garden and participate in family outings including camping and fishing. She would light up with a smile when a family member of friend walked into a room.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Laverl and Cal Olsen.

Survivors include her children, Kristine Mortenson and her husband, Larry, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Tina Sumpter and her husband, Jerry, of Clearfield, Utah, Cindy Weitzel and her husband, Ray, of Libby, John Briggs and his wife, Laure, of Springville, Utah, and Mike Atchley of Provo, Utah; sisters Phyllis Hill and her husband, Harry, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Doreen Peck and her husband, Vaughn, of Blackfoot, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Monday at the LDS Church in Anthony, Idaho, with interment at Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary. Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
