Irene Parmenter

Irene Parmenter, 90, died Monday at her home in Libby. She was born Aug.14, 1917, in Cabinet, Idaho to Edward and Maude (Curnutt) Swanson.

The family resided in Rathdrum, Idaho and later in Kent, Wash., where Irene was raised and educated. She graduated from Meridian High School in Kent in 1935.

She married Kenneth Parmenter in September 1935 in Kent. After her husband's death in 1975, Irene came to Libby where she had resided for the past 32 years.

She was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene and had been active in many church activities, serving as a surrogate mom and grandma to many.

She was also a member of the Women's Aglow Fellowship and enjoyed singing, lending her voice to many church and community cantatas.

Gifted in handcrafts, Irene was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed making numerous items for family and friends.

Irene is survived by a daughter, Jean Cole of Warsaw, Mo., a son, Jim Parmenter of Cave Creek, Ariz.; 5 grandchildren, Chris, Kelley, Erin, Leann and Bradley; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Bob Havens officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kent, Wash.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene.
