Thanks for the success of Relay for life
To the Editor:
During the weekend of Aug 3-4, 21 teams comprised of more than 200 area men, women and youngsters took to the track at Asa Wood School in Libby to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Lincoln County Relay For Life also raised awareness that cancer is a disease that can affect anyone, regardless of age.
I want to take this time to thank everyone in Lincoln County who was involved with this year's Relay For Life for their generous outpouring of support. I would be remiss if I didn't first thank our incredible planning committee and our many volunteers. For the past six months they worked long hours to make sure every facet of the Relay was covered, making this one of the best-run events I have ever attended.
Without our many corporate sponsors, we would not be able to donate every dollar raised by our teams to the American Cancer Society.
Our sponsors funded all the expenses involved in the Relay, from rental of the site, tents and audio equipment to the purchase of the hundreds of t-shirts and the myriad of items needed to put on an event of this magnitude.
This year, participation in the Relay was comprised of a wide spectrum of teams and volunteers. Participants ranged from grade school students, boy scouts, cheerleaders, members of the football, volleyball, and baseball teams and many of their teachers, to our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and some very active senior citizens. They went far beyond the call of duty in raising money for the Society and its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.
Because of the dedication and hard work of all these individuals, we are one step closer to finding a cure for cancer. Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing everyone at our next American Cancer Society Lincoln County Relay For Life.
