Thanking all the local volunteers
To the Editor:
April 15-21 was National Volunteer Week.
The purpose of National Volunteer Week was to recognize outstanding volunteers within our community and around the United States. Thousands of volunteer recognition events took place all over the country throughout the week to recognize volunteers and their contributions.
National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Since then, every U.S. President has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week.
Libby and Troy are towns full of generous people. I am new to Libby, but from my first day here I have been overwhelmed by how kind and helpful this community is. From people who simply check in with neighbors to people who devote a significant amount of time and energy to helping anyone and everyone, I have seen it all.
So, please take a moment to thank the people that you know who take time out of their daily lives to help others around them (and give yourself a pat on the back). It is these people that make Libby and Troy such a wonderful place to live and work.
