It's time for a change in Lincoln County treasurer's office
To the Editor:
It is time for a change in the county treasurer's office.
Geri Miller's performance as county treasurer has been inefficient and substandard. Audit reports are available to the public at the clerk and recorder's office.
Here is a sampling of Geri Miller's recent audits:
* Audit reports from 2003, 2004, and 2005 cite the current treasurer for not balancing the bank accounts cash balance to the county's cash reports in a timely fashion. The 2005 audit point sheet states "the internal control procedures over the safeguarding of assets have been weakened."
* Audit reports from 2004 and 2005 cite the treasurer for not properly cross-training employees. The 2004 audit notes state "County treasurer only works half time." However, the county treasurer collects a full-time paycheck.
* The county treasurer is also responsible for closing the motor vehicle department every day during the lunch hour. With the election coming up, she recently reopened Libby's office at noon time. However, for the folks in Eureka, the office is only open two days a week.
* The 2004 audit cited the treasurer for not allocating funds to the Eureka tax increment district created in 2001.
Geri Miller has proven her inability to run the county treasurer's office efficiently. She's had 16 years to get it right and hasn't.
Vote for Nancy Sutton, treasurer. She has years of experience in office management and balancing budgets. Nancy's reputation for hard work and honesty is well known in the community. A vote for Nancy Sutton, treasurer, is a vote for positive change.
