Nothing being done to protect child victims from predators

| October 20, 2006 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

Almost 20 years ago, in 1987, a 5-year-old boy was murdered in Libby by a sexual predator. The boy was Ryan VanLuchene. The murderer was Robert Hornback, a repeat offender.

At this time there are quite a number of sexual predators registered in Libby and Troy. There are, of course, many potential child victims with nothing being done to additionally protect them.

There's a plan drawn up to provide added protection by the community but it is not active. Likely, community support will not be forthcoming until another local child is murdered. At that time, interested parties can call Ted Hardgrove at 293-3926.

Or - think about not waiting for another child to be lost.

The plan is fully provided for in the Montana criminal code. Sanction by the Lincoln County sheriff is expected. No illegal harassment of registered sex offenders will be tolerated.
