Maria Fraser

Maria B. Fraser, 92, of Libby died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Libby Care Center from natural causes.

Maria was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Budapest, Hungary, and received her education in Europe.

At the end of World War II, she worked for the U.S. Army as a supervisor of civilians for two years. While employed by the Army, she met Austin "Sandy" Fraser. They were married in 1947 and made their home in Lincoln County.

Maria worked as a bookkeeper for 25 years and was active in the Democratic Party. She was an avid fisherwoman and birdwatcher and is widely known for her lifelong involvement in wilderness and conservation efforts.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She is survived by a brother, a niece and a nephew in Budapest, and a cousin in Maine.

Private family services will be held. Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
