Williams picked to fill city council vacancy

Peggy Williams was sworn in Monday to fill a vacancy on Libby City Council.

An employee of the KLCB-KTNY radio station, Williams is a longtime Libby resident and is a member of the city planning board. She was one of three people who applied for the position and were interviewed by the council's personnel committee.

Also applying were Mark Roberts, a Libby native and retired Army officer; and D.C. Orr, a contractor and frequent critic of the council and Mayor Tony Berget.

The council voted 5-0 to follow the personnel committee's recommendation and appoint Williams.

The vacancy was created in August when the council voted to remove member Stu Crismore due to his failure to attend a number of meetings. Crismore challenged the council's decision in court and was briefly reinstated while District Judge Michael Prezeau reviewed the case. Prezeau later upheld the council's actions.

Crismore was elected in 2003. Williams will serve out the remainder of his term, which expires next year.
