Dayton Hill

Dayton W. Hill, 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at Libby Care Center.

He was born May 8, 1925, in Wymore, Neb., to Marvin and Mary Moyer Hill.

When Dayton was 9, he moved to Valentine, Mont., with his mother and stepfather.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and served during World War II.

Dayton married the former Pauline Reimer in Billings on March 14, 1945.

He started working in 1953 for J. Neils Lumber Co., then St. Regis and Champion International, retiring in 1986.

Dayton enjoyed golfing with his family, woodworking and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 8, 1986; his second wife, Alice Preston on Aug. 25, 2006, whom he married on June 25, 1989; a brother; and a sister.

Survivors include his children Gary Hill of Marion, Don Hill and wife Brenda of Libby, Jim Hill and wife Sheila, and Jo Thompson, all of Helena, and Wayne Hill of Kalispell; sister Marilyn Nagel and husband Al of Helena; 10 grandchildren, Heidi, Steve, Mike, Kami, Gary, Mark, Sara, Kelly, Levin and Tasha; five great-grandchildren; and Alice's children, Gloria Morrill and husband Larry of California and Kenny Preston and wife Marcia of Libby.

Private family services were held Saturday, Nov. 4, at the City of Libby Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.
