Helpful youngsters a refreshing experience
To the Editor:
It is pretty easy to find reports of juvenile misbehavior today, maybe even to the point where we have become almost fearful of kids. I would like to take the opportunity to report a totally different experience with a group of local kids.
I was first approached by ARD Net and asked if I would be willing to let some kids come and help me with yard work. Willing? I was more than willing. I was told that they would be from local church groups and between the fourth and eighth grade.
Last Sunday Rene Rose showed up with Nick Reny, Daniel Webster, Cree Maloney, Dylan Berget, Kaitlyn Haugen, James Dash and Tyler Krieller from the United Methodist and Christ Lutheran youth groups.
They spent about three hours helping with my yard. They mostly dug and pulled weeds and used the weed eater.
I very much appreciated the work that was accomplished, but even more it was very refreshing to have a pleasant group of young people share my yard. There was adult supervision so I didn't have to worry about things getting out of control, and yet they are kids and there was laughter and fun mixed in with the work. They were very polite and pleasant young people.
I would like to thank and commend all who are involved in this project, giving older people help with yard work, and kids the experience of helping someone and feeling good about themselves.
