Hazel M. Read, 76, a resident of Libby for the past 38 years, died May 9, 2006, in San Diego while on vacation with family and friends.

Services will be Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m. at the City of Libby Cemetery.

Born Oct. 28, 1929, at Skitook, Okla., to Russell and Wilma Wilder, she moved to Picher, Okla. with her family as a small child where she was raised and educated. She married William D. (Bill) Read April 13, 1952, in Wapato, Wash.; they had lived in many locations throughout the country as her husband worked in construction. They came to Libby in 1968 where she had been a checker at Rosauers for many years and had later worked at Janet's Maytag for an extended period of time.

Her husband, Bill, preceded her in death in 1998.

Survivors include a step-son, William Read of Cal-Nev-Ari, Nev.; a sister, Pauline Shoemaker of Picher, Okla.; a grandson, David of Seattle; three nephews and lifelong friend, Ina Mae Chemela, who was with her at the time of her death.

Arrangements are by Nelson and Vial Funeral Home and memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
