Commissioners clarify position

| May 5, 2006 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

The editorial published in the May 3 edition of The Western News contained an error. We have confirmed this with editor Roger Morris.

The editorial states that the commissioners are in favor of abandoning a portion of the Granite Creek Road used to access the trailhead to Granite Lake. We would like to clarify that this is absolutely wrong.

Our board is not in favor of abandoning this historical road or any other county road that provides important public access to Forest Service lands. We strongly believe that protecting these historical rights is an immensely important obligation that we take very seriously.
