When and where will the wilderness designations end?

| January 26, 2006 11:00 PM

To the Editor:

I would like to say I've enjoyed the beautiful backcountry photo that has been in The Western News provided by the Kootenai and Clark Fork business owners, outdoorsmen and conservationists along with the Cabinet Resource Group.

They are requesting to have the Scotchman Peaks and Roderick areas set aside as wilderness to assure some special places remain essentially natural.

Within our beautiful country we have 104 million acres of official designated wilderness. This is equivalent in size to the states of Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania combined.

And I might add, the beautiful picture used in their ad is Rock Lake, which as I recall is protected inside the Cabinet Wilderness area.

When and where will it end?
