Tony Holzer

Anton C. (Tony) Holzer, 59, a Kootenai Valley resident for the past 38 years, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at his home in Libby.

He had worked as a sawyer in the logging department of the St. Regis Paper Company in Libby; he had later been a sawyer for various independent logging companies in Libby and also a self-employed logger as well as house builder in the area.

He was born at Bismarck, N.D. on Jan. 17, 1946, to Joseph V. Holzer and Rose Faith Holzer and was raised and educated at Bismarck. He remained there until coming to Libby in 1967. Tony had been an excellent horseman and was widely known in the area as an expert roper. An avid outdoorsman, Tony enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping and water-skiing.

Preceding him in death were his parents as well as sisters Angeline and JoAnn and brother Gene.

He is survived by his children, Angela (Angie) Grotjohn of Libby and Brian Holzer of Livingston; brothers and sisters Robert Holzer and wife Shirley of Bismark, N.D., Joleen Steiger and husband Butch of Libby, Patrick Holzer of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patricia Holzer, Donald Holzer and wife Judy and Donna Lindsay and husband Duane, all of Libby; special friend Bobbi Fletcher, Libby; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel; interment services will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and until noon Saturday.
