Charles "Pappy" Hutton
Charles H. "Pappy" Hutton, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
He was born at Libby on Aug. 5, 1928 to Harold "Hap" Hutton and Evelyn Maurer Hutton. He was raised and educated in Libby and had later worked at the naval supply depot in Spokane before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in March 1946.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Montana where he was employed briefly by the J. Neils Lumber Company before working for Zonolite and W.R. Grace and Co. from 1950 until 1967.
He again served his country when he entered the Seabees, serving during the Vietnam War era and beyond at many locations throughout the world until retiring in March 1983. He returned home to Montana in March 2000 where he had resided at Columbia Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Maurice, Cleve, Don and Jack and sister Virgean.
He is survived by his children including step-son Roger Flier of Long Beach, Miss.; daughters, Morie Smith of Long Beach, Miss.; Charlis Dube of Columbia Falls; Marla Theofel of San Rafael, Calif.; Serita Hutton of Corte Madera, Calif.; son Charles B. (Chipper) Hutton of Diamond Head, Miss.; and daughter Angelique Hutton, also of Long Beach, Miss.; sisters Ardith Myhre and Betty Ross, Libby; Shirley (Sue) Kihs of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Marcia Madison of Libby; Judith Tulleners of Spokane, Wash.; and Margie Johnson of Libby; brothers Lorne (Jim) Hutton of Libby; Montana Hutton of San Jose, Calif.; Lawrence Hutton of Anchorage, Alaska; and Kenneth Hutton of Libby; 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Nelson and Vial Funeral Home Chapel; interment services with military honors will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
