Gerald Porter

Gerald C. Porter, 70, of Troy, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at home.

He was born June 2, 1936, at Lansing, Mich., to Charles and Anna Porter. He came to Troy as a child and attended Troy Public Schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the 1950s. Following his honorable discharge, he lived in Michigan and worked for General Motors. He returned to Troy in 1967, working in the timber industry for many years mainly as a skidder operator until retiring in 1998.

He greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He liked hunting and fishing and being with his faithful dog and companion Butter.

He was preceded in death by his son Wesley Porter in 1987.

He is survived by his daughters, Lola Porter of Tempe, Ariz., and Deanna Thill of Troy; companion of 40 years, Sharon Porter; sisters Donna Gring of Missoula, Geraldine Snell of Heron, Mich., and Kay Foss of Mason, Mich.; a brother, Bill Porter of Hermiston, Ore.; grandchildren, Brett, Suzanne, Mikaela and Tana; and great-grandchild Katelyne.

Services were held Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Troy Church of God with Pastor Gene Bushnell officiating.
