Family of murder victim going on with their lives after 19 years

| August 30, 2006 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

I know it has always been hard on the community to have been the site of my son, Ryan VanLuchene's murder in 1987.

On Aug. 31 it will have been 19 years since the murder. Robert Hornback is in jail, hopefully for the rest of his life. We have gone on with our lives, but some days are still harder than others.

At this time my son, Derek VanLuchene, and I have been invited to do some national speaking through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Derek is participating in education for law enforcement and I speak from a victim's point of view.

The National Child's Safety Act has been passed and we want to help Montana stay in compliance with this law.

We certainly keep you in our prayers and we know you do the same for us. Be proud of your caring community.
