Wilderness Society litters wild lands with solicitations
To the Editor:
I recently spent a glorious five days in the Cabinets with my daughter hiking into lakes, climbing peaks and enjoying the scenery and wildlife. We met only a few people on the trail. The experience was equivalent to what I had growing up in the valley.
Imagine my surprise, when arriving at the car we found a solicitation tucked under the windshield wiper by representatives of the Montana Wilderness Society telling me that the wilderness needs my help: "Please send $20, $50, or $100."
What?! I called the Kootenai National Forest supervisor's office and learned that solicitation is absolutely prohibited on the forest. Do I call this littering? Do I call this solicitation? Whatever it is called, the Montana Wilderness Society has no interest in protecting the wilds of Montana, only their pocketbook.
