Janie Erickson

Janie Davis Erickson, 72, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at her home in Libby.

Janie was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Phenix Township, Ill., to Eva Cross and E. Martin Davis, the eighth of nine children and the youngest girl. Janie attended grade school in rural Geneseo, Ill., and graduated in 1953 from Geneseo High School.

Janie married Don Erickson Nov. 19, 1955, in Chicago. Following their marriage, they moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., and later to Sandpoint, Idaho, before coming to Libby in 1957.

She had worked as a telephone operator in Chicago, Fort Wayne and then in Libby for General Telephone; she later had been a dispatcher at Lincoln County Sheriff's for five years.

Active in community affairs, Janie had served as the first vice president of Nordicfest as well as serving as chairman for the community Red Cross blood drives, and member and chair for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Janie also had been an active church member for most her life, first with Loraine Church at Geneseo, then Christ Lutheran Church in Libby, and Our Savior Lutheran Church while residing in Columbia Falls from 1987 to 1989.

Survivors include her husband; her children, Diane Erickson of Garrison, N.D., Mark Erickson of Juneau, Alaska, Nancy Johnson of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and David Erickson of Burbank, Calif.; four grandsons; and sisters and brothers June Bridger of New Boston, Ill., Hazel Kukuk of Geneseo, Elzie Davis of Evanston, Ill., and Bill Davis of Bostonville, Ill.

Services were held Monday at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Les Nelson officiating. Memorials may be made to hospice or to Christ Lutheran Church.
