Roger Smith

Roger Edward Smith, 65, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at his home in Libby, with his wife Merry at his side.

He was born in Whitefish, the first son of Harry and Ethel Smith. He attended elementary school in Whitefish and later Flathead High School in Kalispell.

Roger joined the Navy, serving for four years and receiving an honorable discharge. He then went to work at Todd Shipyard in Seattle and later moved to Everett, where he worked as a millwright at Canyon Lumber Co. until his retirement.

At that time Roger and his companion, Merry, moved to Libby, where they were married in their home in 1994. They spent their time camping, hunting, fishing, and spending lazy summer days by the babbling brooks around Libby.

Roger is survived by his wife Merry and her son and his wife, Dave and Becky Megard. Other survivors include Roger's sisters Carol Dale and husband Elton of Seattle, Patty McMurdo and Ted of Whitefish, Pam Brown and Doug of Olney, Sheri Pierce of Whitefish, Sandy Clark and husband Steve of Lake Stevens, Wash., and Michelle Truman from north of Whitefish; brothers Harry James Smith and wife Peggy of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Mike Smith and wife Julie of West Valley City, Utah; daughters Samantha "Sam" Wiltse and husband Jim and Vickie Eddy and husband Pat of Lake Stevens, Wash.; a special buddy, Ben White and wife Sheryl; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don, and his grandparents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Hidden Chapel, 1107 Utah Avenue in Libby. Memorials may be sent to Merry Smith, 1202 Dakota Ave., Libby MT 59923.
