Bill Pattie

Former Troy resident Leonard W. "Bill" Pattie, 76, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, in Big Timber.

He was born March 10, 1930, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to the late Archie and Nellie Pattie. He grew up in Troy and graduated from Troy High School in 1948.

Bill attended college in Missoula and received a master's in guidance counseling.

He accepted a job teaching in the Chinook schools but was drafted into the Army during the first year. He served two years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his war service, Bill taught in Priest River, Idaho; from there he moved on to Mercer Island, Wash., schools.

Bill was an avid collector of beer memorabilia. He loved history and was a voracious reader.

In 1951 Bill married Lila Jean Setterstrom of Butte. They had four children, William Bruce, Linda Sue, Laura Kay and Robert Carl. They divorced in 1964.

In late 1965, Bill married Lyla Jean Westervelt of Big Timber. They had two children, April Louise in 1969 and Aaron Leon in 1970.

Bil also was preceded in death by a brother, Francis, and his first wife.

He is survived by his wife, Lyla Jean of Big Timber; and six children, 10 grandchildren and a brother, Robert, all of the Seattle area.

Memorial services were held in Issaquah, Wash., on Aug. 10.
