Leonard Edington

Leonard L. Edington, 70, a resident of the Kootenai Valley for the past 20 years, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 25, at this home near Libby.

Born at Napa, Calif., on Jan. 22, 1935 to Lee Edington and Marie Schomberg Edington, he was raised and educated at Napa. He began working for the Bank of America in California, first as a teller an later as a loan officer. He later resided at Idaho Falls, Idaho, for 25 years, at first serving as loan officer at First Security Bank. He later became involved in the potato brokerage businesses until his retirement.

He came to the Libby area in 1985 where he remained at this home in the "Strawberry Patch" west of Libby until the time of his death.

He married Mabel Christianson on Sept. 3, 1989.

An avid outdoorsman, Len enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as landscaping, gardening and he took great pride in his orchard and vegetable garden. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene, in 1988.

Survivors include his wife Mabel; his children, Donald Edington and wife Gwen of Idaho Falls, Idaho,; Donna Edington-Phillips and husband Scott of Two Rivers, Wis., and Douglas Edington and wife Susan of Spokane; sisters Barbara Edington-Huntington and husband Fred of Corvallis, and Janise Edington-Brenneis of Florida; stepchildren Adam Christianson of Modesto, Calif., and Joel Christianson of Anchorage, Alaska; and three grandchildren — Cynthia, Kimberly and Scott Alan Phillips.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Foote officiating. A brief reception will follow the service in the church fellowship room. Committal services will take place at 3 p.m. at the City of Libby Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home from 1-8 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made to Wings or Hospice.
