Verna Cox

Verna V. Cox, 74, of Libby, died on Monday evening, Oct. 10, 2005, at her home.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1931, at Colusa, Calif., to Vern and Viola Short Snyder.

She was raised and educated in California.

Verna married Joe Cox in 1949 and they lived for many years in the Santa Cruz-Mariposa area, where they raised their family.

They moved to Libby in 1995.

A gifted artist, Verna earned several awards for her still life oil paintings and her wildlife subjects. She also enjoyed gardening.

After moving to Montana she enjoyed fishing trips to Howard Lake where she was known for always catching the first and the biggest fish.

Her greatest enjoyment came from being a mom and grandma to her family.

Verna was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Murray, in 2003.

Survivors include Joe, her husband for 56 years, Libby; daughter Dee Teske and her husband Brent, Libby; son Steve Cox and his wife Diane, Sitka, Alaska; son-in-law Dan Murray, Libby, sisters Patricia Woodson of Mariposa, and Margie Alverez, Santa Cruz; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Private service arrangements are under direction of the Nelson and Vial Funeral Home.
