Richard Shelley

Richard S. Shelley, 68, died on Oct. 9, 2005, at his home in Libby.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1937, at Libby, to Raymond and Ethel Williams Shelley.

Richard grew up at Silver Butte and attended the Manicke School. After high school he lived with his sister Marie in Hayward, Calif., for two years, returning to Libby in 1957.

Richard met and married Dorothy Tiffany at Libby in 1958. They had been married for 47 years.

Richard worked as a crane operator loading logs for St. Regis at Libby.

He also worked in the oil fields at Sidney until he was injured.

He returned to school and earned an associate degree in hotel management, working for six years with Best Western in Elko, Nev.

Richard was on dialysis from 1996 until he received a kidney transplant in 1998.

A loving husband and wonderful father, Richard enjoyed fishing, riding around looking for wildlife, gardening, working with flowers in the backyard and playing bridge and pinochle.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy, Libby; four children, Linda DeHart and her husband Dan, Houston, Texas; Rick Shelley and his wife Janette, Missoula; Serena Wicka and her husband Matt, Libby, and Kevin Shelley and his wife Leanne, also of Libby; brother Trevert Shelley and his wife Mary, Spokane; sister Ada Graham, Libby, and eight grandchildren, Stacey, J.D., Ben, Jesse, Wyatt, Chris, Justin and Kristen.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

A reception will follow at the VFW Hall.

Arrangements are under the car of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
