| November 17, 2005 11:00 PM

The Christmas season gets off to a running start in Libby on Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving with the Parade of Lights, community Christmas tree lighting, and Live Nativity.

The Libby Area Chamber of Commerce and Libby Revitalization Inc. have teamed up to make it a special season.

The annual Libby Christmas Parade of Lights will be Friday, Nov. 25, at 6:30 p.m. on Mineral Avenue. At 7 p.m. there will be the community Christmas tree lighting at the end of Mineral near the train depot. And at 7:30 p.m. the Nazarene Church will present the Live Nativity at nearby Depot Park.

And Santa, who will be traveling in the parade, will be available for photos with children beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the community tree.

Local business, groups and individuals are invited to enter the Parade of Lights. They are being encouraged to decorate their float, vehicle, animals or self with lights. To enter the parade, call the chamber for an application.

Also, all business property owners are being encouraged to show their holiday spirit by putting up Christmas lights. LRI is collecting donations of white lights.

"The more lights we get, the more public spaces we will light up," said LRI director Betty Jo Wood. LRI would like to decorate the trees on Lincoln Boulevard, the trees in front of the city police department office and around the downtown bandshell.

"If you have a string or two of white lights that you would like to donate — they will not be returned — contact LRI and we will pick them up," Wood said.
