Supervisor's wilderness decision called horrible for local people
To the Editor:
Our forest supervisor Bob Castaneda made a decision to eliminate all recommended wilderness on the Kootenai National Forest. This was a horrible decision he made for all of us who make this forest our home.
The roadless back country that so many of us enjoy is the most valuable asset that Lincoln County holds.
The Forest Service held two years of meetings to help shape the new 15-year forest plan. I attended most of these Libby GA meetings and a few Yaak meetings. For the most part they were what the Forest Service wanted, collaboration and consensus.
Unfortunately, at the last moment, Mr. Castaneda caved into the motorized-use industry.
Congratulations Bob on your political pats on the back, and your upcoming retirement.
