Troy students experience amazing, unforgettable trip

To the Editor:

This year, the Troy High School Art Club of 18 students and four chaperones was allowed to venture to San Francisco, Calif.

We raised money by delving into our own pockets and doing various artistic fundraisers to be able to afford this spend quest. And speaking from personal experience, seeing that I am in fact a member of THS Art Club, it was a blast and a half.

We took the Alcatraz tour and were shocked and amazed by all of the shocking and amazing facts that we were ignorant of before our visit. We visited several art museums including the strange and dazzling Museum of Modern Art. Whenever "modern art" is involved you know you're about to see some of the most puzzling and unique pieces of… stuff you've ever seen.

We spent time in Chinatown and Latino Town visiting the massively impressive Fortune Cookie Factory and gazing at the colorful murals. Haight and Ashbury was an adventure in which we were guided by a fun-fact-filled flower child and afterward we spent a few memorable hours wandering amongst the many shops and people that lined the street.

On our last day we were again spellbound at Public Glass where we learned about the art of glass blowing, watched master glass blowers create beauty, and even got a chance to try our hand at a bit of the craft. All in all, it was an amazing and unforgettable trip that changed lives, opened eyes, and broadened the minds of our nation's youth.
