Bud Hagerty

William J. (Bud) Hagerty, 95, longtime Kootenai Valley resident, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Hospital.

He was born on July 9, 1909, at Browning, to John William and Rose Paul Hagerty.

Bud attended tribal schools in the western states and worked in construction.

He moved to Butte in the early 1930's and married Jeannette Peeso at Butte in 1935.

Bud and Jeannette moved to Libby in 1945 and Bud worked for the Zonolite Company and operated an excavation service with Connie Blackwell. He also operated the Texaco Service Station on Mineral Avenue.

Later he worked for the J. Neils Lumber Company and St. Regis Paper Company for 27 years, retiring in 1974. Bud had an uncanny ability to "fix things" and was always ready to lend a helping hand on any project.

He was a member of the Lumber & Sawmill Workers Union, the Operating Engineers and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Jeannette, Libby; son Bill Hagerty and his wife Leota, also of Libby; brothers Calvin Woodward, Browning, and Marvin Woodward, Vancouver, Wash., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the City of Libby Cemetery with the Rev. Rudy Bullman officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Libby Volunteer Ambulance, Box 777, Libby.

Arrangements are under the care of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
