Fred Thompson Jr.

Fred E. Thompson Jr., 57, died on May 31, 2005, at his home in Troy.

He was born to Fred and Della Thompson in Trenton, N.J., and entered the U.S. Navy in 1965, serving aboard the USS Enterprise CV-65 until 1969. He remained in the reserves until 1971.

After he was honorably discharged, Fred spent five years in New Jersey before moving to Washington to work at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard until moving to Troy in 1993.

He worked at various jobs in the Troy area, most recently doing welding and machine work out of the shop located at his home.

Fred was preceded in death by his father and his brother David.

Survivors include his wife Linda, son and daughter-in-law Gene and Heather Thompson, daughter Shannon Johnson and granddaghters Britney and Casie, all of Troy.

He is also survived by his mother Della Hurley, Cream Ridge, N.J., brother and sister-in-law Richard and Michele Thompson, Bloomsbury, N.J., sister Deb Polenz, Bloomsbury, and sister-in-law Myna Thompson, Pennington, N.J.

Memorial services will be conducted at Blackwell Memorial Home in Pennington on Sunday, June 12 with the Rev. Orrin T. Hardgrove, pastor of Cavalry Baptist Church in Hopewell officiating.

Private interment will take place at Highland Cemetery in Hopewell.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
