John Corbett
John C. Corbett, 81, of Polson, died on Friday, July 22, 2005, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula from complications of lung surgery.
John was born on June 11, 1924, at Fairview, the youngest child of George and Lottie Oakland Corbett, and the family moved to Libby where John was raised and educated.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II and later in the Korean War.
John attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, and it was there that he met and married Therese Biesen in 1950.
His long career in law enforcement included service with the Montana Highway Patrol and work as a special investigator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
John was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Elks, NARFE, Masumola and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Polson.
A pilot, John also enjoyed fishing, camping, golf, playing cards and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mickie Hennessy Decker, brothers Lloyd and George (Joe) Corbett and son-in-law Rich Stripp.
Survivors include his wife Therese, Polson, and his children, son Timothy and his wife Laura Corbett, Boise, Idaho, daughters Dana and her husband Oscar Escobar of Milwaukie, Ore., Cindy and her husband Kenneth Munski, Great Falls, and Elizabeth Stripp, Ronan, grandchildren Rainee and her husband Nick Schafer, Andrea Corbett, Neil Corbett, Josh and his wife Callie Munski, Nathan Munski, Katie Munski, Mark Escobar and John Escobar, and great-grandchildren Hannah and Bailey Munski.
He is also survived by his sister Elva Corbett Detjens, Libby, sisters-in-law Ruth Corbett, Kalispell, and Min Corbett, Libby, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson with military honors to follow at the church.
A reception will follow services.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Extended Care in Ronan or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements and cremation are under the care of Grogan Funeral Home & Crematory of Polson.
