Ivan Williams

Ivan J. Williams, 83, of Troy, died July 13, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Hospital.

He was born on May 8, 1922, at Libby, to George and Ivy Gaskill Williams.

Ivan grew up in Libby and attended the Manicke School through the eighth grade.

He went to work for the U.S. Forest Service, doing seasonal work on the Kootenai National Forest. He also worked for several ranchers.

After moving to Kalispell to find work, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1942 and was honorably discharged in November 1945 after serving in Africa, Italy and France.

Ivan received the American Defense Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was married to Ora Jean Montgomery for 22 years and in August 1971, he married Ruby Gaddy.

Ivan enjoyed shooting, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters Laurie and Gurine.

Survivors include his wife Ruby Williams, Troy; children Glenda Williams and Glenn Williams, both of Libby, step-daughter Mitzi Judd, Spokane, sister Ruth Hadwen in Oregon, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted on Saturday, July 16, at the Troy Church of God.

Local arrangements were by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
