Republicans could end abortion

| July 1, 2005 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

If President George W. Bush and the Republican majority U.S. Congress wanted to, they could end abortion in America in one week by passing Rep. Duncan Hunter's perennial "Right to Life Act" (currently HR552), together with the federal court jurisdiction removal language found in legislation passed by the U.S. House on July 22, 2004, Marriage Protection Act. The Marriage Protection Act was designed to prevent the Supreme Court and the lower federal courts from overturning the federal 1996 Defense of Marriage Act.

Perhaps there is a need for more Supreme Court appointees from the Republicans. At present only seven of the nine were appointed by them.
