Cheat grass among changes

| July 1, 2005 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

My first trip to Helena in 40 years showed lots of changes.

The change of most concern and importance is the spread of cheat grass. All rural homes in western Montana will soon be at great risk because of the danger of wildfire.

No fire department in the world can put out a cheat grass fire. When cheat grass burns it eliminates all other vegetation in the burn area.

The lack of concern by the environmentalists, the governor, the Forest Service, the BLM and county commissioners can only be attributed to total ignorance.
