John Norberg
John Melvin Norberg Jr., 67, of Libby, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Kalispell of heart failure.
He was born on July 28, 1937 at Chinook to John Melvin and Myrtle Swenson Norberg.
He received his early education at Chinook, graduating from Chinook High School with the Class of 1957.
John served with the National Guard after graduating from high school and returned to Chinook where he married Nancy Buhmann in 1960.
The Norbergs had three daughters and were married until 1998.
John worked in the Buhmann family beekeeping business until 1967 when he enrolled at Northern Montana College at Havre, earning a degree in mechanical drafting.
In 1969 the Norbergs moved to Libby where John was employed in the engineering department for St. Regis Paper Company and later for Champion. He began work for the City of Libby as a building inspector in 1994 and was still working for the city on a part-time basis at his death.
John loved hunting, fishing, sports, his family, friends and his dog Jesse. He enjoyed frequent trips to eastern Montana, especially to Chinook.
He played basketball when he was younger and continued to enjoy league bowling throughout his life.
John coached his daughter Wendy¹s softball team and remained an avid Logger fan, attending many sporting events.
An active member of Christ Lutheran Church, John also belonged to the Sons of Norway and was a volunteer firefighter for St. Regis and Champion.
John was a loving father and grandfather. A fun-loving person who took pleasure in joking around with his grandchildren and others, he was blessed with many close friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his three daughters, Terri Hartly and her husband Jim, Livingston; Kim Everts and her husband Michael, Bozeman, and Wendy Wilson and her husband Bob, Kalispell, five grandsons Christopher and Andrew Hartly, Spencer Everts and Gavyn and Logan Wilson, and two granddaughters Alison and Bianca Everts, a brother Frank Norberg, Erlanger, Ky., and three sisters, Dixie Darby, Pine Mount Valle, Ga., Darlene Warrington, Laurel, and Darla Plouffe, Chinook.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, at Christ Lutheran Church, followed by a luncheon.
Burial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Cooper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 200 W. Larch, Libby.
