Nichols sparks fast-starting Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Junior point guard Natalie Nichols scored six of her 16 points in the first quarter to start Lakeland toward a 69-32 victory over Newport in nonleague action Monday night.

Nichols also had seven assists and five steals for Lakeland (7-2), which led 25-6 after one quarter and 36-12 at halftime.

"She played really well tonight — as well as I've seen her play," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said.

Bridgitt Bohannon scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Hawks. Brigitte Boucher had 10 points, and Kayla Stiegemeier added seven points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Newport is 1-4.

Lakeland plays at Sandpoint on Thursday.

Grey Beaudry added 11 points and nine rebounds for North Idaho Christian, and Matt Chambers had five steals.
