Resident offers pool starter money

A City of Troy resident has issued a challenge, and a financial commitment, to other residents to build a public swimming pool.

Linda Newstrom offered to donate $600 a year toward the construction of a swimming pool.

"I think we can do it," Newstrom said, mentioning that City Clerk Sandra Johnson's brother had offered several years ago to build the pool.

Four to five years ago Hank Keenen, a local mason, offered to help the city build a pool, if they wanted to.

"I thought I'd put a jump start to this," Newstrom said.

City councilmen Don Banning and Ron Pierce questioned the long term expenses of maintaining and staffing a pool.

"It hasn't gotten that far," Johnson said.

Newstrom said she was trying to get something started.

"There's so many good things that can happen," she said.
