Gayle Rodes

Former Libby resident Gayle Joann Rodes, 75, died on Dec. 13, 2004, at Everett, Wash.

She was born on Feb. 24. 1929, in Harris County to Louis and Mary Hoppe. Gayle was the second child and the first girl in the family of six children.

The depression caused the family to move around Montana until they settled in Libby in 1941. Gayle graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1947.

She married William R. McGrew and they had two sons, Stephen Scott and Jeffrey Mark.

In 1958 Gayle married Albert H. Rodes and they had son Albert H. Rodes III (Trey) in 1968.

Gayle had the occasional opportunity to be a stay-at-home housewife but was more often employed outside the home.

She worked for the Pullman Co., the Englander Mattress Co., John P. Hopkins Construction Co., Sunset Retirement Home, and was for many years an in-home day care provider.

She finished her employment with Snohomish County Hospice in Everett.

Gayle is survived by her husband Albert, sons Scott McGrew and his wife Patty, Jeffrey McGrew, and Albert H. Rodes III, and her brother Wayne L. Hoppe and his wife Sue, an aunt, Ethel Hoppe, and five grandchildren, Kim, John, Heather, Alexandra and Ben, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gayle will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend by all who knew her.
