The Troy High School tennis team advanced several players from their Divisional Tournament against Bigfork May 10 and 11 to the State Tournament taking place this weekend.

For the boys, Seniors Cody Osterberg, Austin McCully and Riccardo Cincelli all advanced in the singles bracket.

Both of the boys and and one girls doubles teams advanced as well. They are second-place seniors Cylan Cummings and Alex Freund, fourth-place seniors Cy Winslow and Jaymin Stever, and third-place freshman Kiersten McCully and junior Rhonelle Morton.

Heading into the divisional tournament, Troy Head Coach Milo Rogers said that he hoped to have junior Katelynn Tallmadge advance to state as well.

In her win against Superior’s Madison Courser May 3, Rogers noted the improvement that Tallmadge has shown.

Tallmadge defeated Courser 7-5, 6-2, that day, after losing to Courser the previous time they faced off.

Rogers said that the season to Troy had fewer matches than he would have liked, with multiple competitions rained out early in the season.

“So, it would be nice to have a little more,” he said.

Still, with as much of the team as entered the season low on experience, Rogers said he has been pleased with how the year went.

“It’s been a year of improvement for sure,” he said. “It’s been good.”
