It's time to start thinking about the upcoming Sept. 12, 2023 elections, as the deadline to file as a candidate is one month away.

Those wanting to run for office must submit the proper forms by June 19.

In Libby, the city council will have three four-year positions open. Filing to run for these positions entails a filing fee of $44.46, a press release from Corrina Brown, the Lincoln County Clerk and Recorder, stated.

In Libby, Brian Zimmerman, Zach McNew and Hugh Taylor are up for re-election this cycle, City Administrator Samuel Sikes said. It was not immediately clear if McNew will run in 2023, but Zimmerman and Taylor confirmed their re-election campaigns.

There are several other positions open for filing across Lincoln County. In Eureka, two town council positions are open for four years and one term is open for two years.

In Eureka, a four-year town judge position is also coming up in the next election, including a $122.43 filing fee.

The Rexford Town Council has one four-year position open. Residents can also vote for the position of Rexford Town Mayor, another four-year term.

In Troy, the town council has two four-year terms up for election. They also have one two-year term. Jamie Shupe and Robert Henson have filed in Troy.

To find the correct forms to file as a candidate in Lincoln County, visit the County Clerk and Recorder's Office or the City of Libby. Forms are also available online or in Troy, Eureka or Rexford.

All completed forms and fees for local candidates must be filed in the Clerk and Recorder's office by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 19.

To vote in the upcoming elections, ensure you are registered to cast a ballot. Late voter registration begins Aug. 15, 2023.

"If you miss this regular registration deadline, you may still register to vote in the election by coming to the Lincoln County Election Center located at 418 Mineral Avenue, Floor B, up to and including Election Day," the release states.

To vote in Lincoln County, you must be 18 years old or older, on or before the next election, a United States citizen registered to vote, and have lived in Lincoln County for at least 30 days.

You will not be able to vote if you are currently a convicted felon serving a sentence in a penal institution or have been judged in a court of law to be of unsound mind.
