Troy City Council has approved a $4,904 state grant as part of a push to revamp the municipality’s museum.

The funds from the Montana Department of Commerce will go toward construction of a storage building and an American Disabilities Act-compliant accessible entrance for the Troy Museum and Visitors' Center.

Along with the state monies, which councilors approved Oct. 20, city officials have secured $6,000 in donations and $1,000 from the Lincoln County Community Fund for the project.

In addition to the ramp and storage, Mayor Dallas Carr said city employees were planning to stock the museum with retired mining equipment the municipality recently acquired.

The renovations are part of a broader mosaic of construction projects City Hall has orchestrated in recent months. By the time work begins on the museum next spring, Carr said the city would be improving its cycling campground and breaking ground on a major water line replacement near Stein’s Market.

“It’s going to be pretty busy,” he said.

Earlier this year, Troy secured $10,000 from the state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks and $26,000 from another Department of Commerce grant to develop the municipality’s Pedaler’s Park. To oversee the water line replacement and other infrastructure projects,

councilors hired Robert Peccia and Associates, an engineering firm with an office in Kalispell, last week.
