James Leo Peterson, 76

James Leo Peterson, 76, of Libby passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2021. He was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Bismarck, N.D., to William Harry and Eva Marie (Nelson) Peterson.

James married Evelyn Steiger on Jan. 19, 1968. They had five wonderful daughters. He was an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

James enjoyed boxing in his younger years with his brother, Dennis. He was always up for a day of hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a very good sense of humor and was always cracking jokes.

James worked at a tire shop when he was younger and as a laborer at the Champion Mill.

James is survived by his four daughters, Amanda Peterson (Chad), Jamie Kelley (Duane), Peggy Scott, all of Libby, and Nancy Peterson (Mike) of Billings; his grandchildren, Stephanie Fairbrother (Robert), Taylor and Drew Munro, Gunnar Fairbrother, Tiah Davenport, Melissa (Brent) McCloud, Jonathan Davenport, Kerry Breitenstein (Dezi), Tamara Breitenstein-Shaver, Shiroccho Kelley, Cody Kelley, Teesa Kelley (Derek), Brandon Middleton; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis (Diane) Peterson; two sisters-in-law, Betty Peterson, Ester (Mike) Watkins; two brothers-in-law, Butch (Jo) Steiger, Allen (Brenda) Steiger; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents, Harry and Eva Peterson; and daughter, Jenny Peterson.
