Gwendolyn Ellen Mally, 81

Gwendolyn Ellen Mally, 81, of Stevensville passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 28, 2021. Gwen was born on Oct. 23, 1939, in Richmond, Calif., to Francis Earl and Venita Marie (Byars) Gray.

She attended the University of California, Berkeley and received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in math. Following graduation, she met and married Robert Lucien Mally. They were married May 31, 1962, in Reno, Nev. The couple later moved to Libby where they raised their two daughters, Darla and Patti.

While in Libby, Gwen worked for Fennessy, Crocker & Allen as a legal secretary. She later worked in the business office of the Libby Public School District as secretary for the business manager. She retired in 2004.

Following her retirement, Gwen and Bob moved to Stevensville to be nearer their daughter, Patti, and her family. Gwen was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gwen loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, tending to her garden and flowers, and researching her family history online.

Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Venita Gray; her husband, Robert (Bob) Mally; and an infant daughter.

Survivors include her daughters, Darla (Rob) Case and Patti (Blake) Haigh, both of Stevensville; siblings, Ron (Nancy) Gray of Pioneer, Calif., Roxie (Dave) Burns, of Stevensville and Dan (Thresa) Gray of Pioneer, Calif.; grandchildren, Julia (Terry) Conduff of Lincoln, N.D., Janelle (Brandon) Foner of Oregon City, Ore., Robert (Carmel) Case of Florence and Kayla Haigh of Stevensville; great-grandchildren, Addison, William and Charlotte Conduff of Lincoln, N.D.; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will be gathering for a celebration of life Aug. 14 at the home of her daughter, Patti, in Stevensville. Visitation will be held Aug. 15, 1 to 5 p.m. at Schnackenberg and Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 16 at the City of Libby Cemetery.
