Of the eight wrestlers from Libby High School who traveled to the state tournament in Billings only three had previously wrestled at the tournament, held this year on Feb. 14 and 15.

“For the five new kids it was a good experience,” said Libby Greenchain Coach Dean Thompson.

In Class A competition, the coach’s son, senior Trey Thompson, took second place in the 152-pound class, losing to Connor Harris of Havre High School. Xander Spady took fourth place in the 126-pound class.

Coach Thompson noted that freshman Cael Schwindt notched a win in Billings at 103 pounds, as did Aydan Williamson at 285 pounds. Tucker Masters was 2-2 at 160 pounds during the tournament, Thompson said.

Meanwhile, grapplers from Eureka’s Lincoln County High School did well in Class B/C.

Gunnar Smith took first place at 126 pounds, as did Nathan Schmidt at 138 pounds and Hank Dunn at 152 pounds. Kyle Durden took second place at 132 pounds.
