Donald Edward Holcomb

Donald Edward Holcomb, born March 20, 1929, in Kalispell to Raymond and Louise Holcomb, went home to be with Jesus on Dec. 3, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Martin. He is survived by his brother, Raymond Holcomb; wife, Della Holcomb of Yakutat, Alaska, a longtime Troy resident; daughters, Rachel (Edgar) Roquel of Orlando, Fla., and Rosalie Holcomb of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Leslie(Robyn) Holcomb of Yakutat, Alaska; six grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Don grew up in Fortine. He graduated from high school in 1947 and attended Kenman Business University in Spokane, Wash., to become a telegrapher. In 1948 he went to work for Great Northern Railway.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951, during the Korean War. He received a commendation for soldierly achievements with the 2nd “Second to None” Infantry Division.

Don returned to Montana in September 1952 to work for the railroad. He married Della

Curtis of Fortine on April 18, 1954, and moved to Troy, where he worked for the railroad until he retired in 1988.

Don and Della moved to Yakutat, Alaska, in June 2017 to be near their son, Les.
