Oct. 29

Suspicious person

9:16 a.m.

Authorities investigated a man reportedly sleeping in the scales, trying to keep warm, near Troy. Law enforcement learned the man had a warrant out of Indiana, but that state would not extradite. The man packed up and left.

9:26 a.m.

Fish and game

A caller reported several people on a boat in a river duck hunting near his house. The caller said they were shooting toward his residence. He told authorities that if fish and game did not put a stop to it, he was at the point of shooting back.

9:33 a.m.

Traffic accident

A truck headed into Montana from Idaho swerved out of the way of another truck that was headed in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road. The trucker hit the guardrail, but was uninjured.

1:26 p.m.

Civil complaint or child custody

A man asked for information about trespassing in regards to a woman living with a relative upstairs in their home. He claimed she had a criminal history and he did not want her coming downstairs. Officials advised him that it was a civil matter.

2:26 p.m.

Public assistance

Authorities responded to a county truck that got stuck while going up McGinnis Meadow Road.

3:08 p.m.

Traffic stop

Authorities arrested DJ Heffner for allegedly driving with a suspended license.

3:55 p.m.

Animal complaint

A Farm to Market Road resident accused her neighbor’s goats of coming onto her property. It is a longstanding problem, she told authorities. The caller wanted to know her legal options going forward.

5:16 p.m.

Theft

A caller reported the theft of the air cap from a tire. She told authorities she believes she knows who is responsible.

6:27 p.m.

Animal complaint

A Eureka man called to complain of a neighbor’s dog barking. It is an ongoing problem, he told authorities.

6:59 p.m.

Public safety

A Park Street resident reported a white vehicle that often travels along the road at excessive speeds. The caller did not provide a make or model.

7:06 p.m.

Fish and game

A caller reported someone shooting a deer from his vehicle. The deer was on private property.

Oct. 30

12:27 a.m.

Suspicious activity

A U.S. Highway 2 resident reported that a vehicle stopped at his property, and an unknown man and woman began looking around. The caller reported asking them what they were looking for. They told him that they were looking for a girlfriend. They did not know the girlfriend’s name, the caller told authorities. He reported that they left after he told them he had a shotgun and they should leave.

Oct. 31

8:59 a.m.

Hazmat, environment

Environmental health officials reported receiving word of an individual digging on Upper Thompson Lake.

10:37 a.m.

Fish and game

A hunter near Basham Lane shot a buck, but failed to have it tagged properly. Authorities issued a warning.

11:19 a.m.

Animal complaint

Authorities responded to a report of a dog bite near Yaak Avenue. Officials transported the hound to the shelter.

4:04 p.m.

Traffic accident

At least two people were injured after a traffic accident near the intersection of East Basalm Street and Dakota Avenue. Both were transported to the hospital.

4:19 p.m.

Scam

A man reported an individual claiming to be from the U.S. Social Security Administration calling him. The caller asked for his social security number, bank account and other information.

5:13 p.m.

Public safety

A caller reported a vehicle losing a wheel while on the move near a supermarket on U.S. Highway 2. The motorist stopped near Bowen Hill.

6:27 p.m.

Suspicious activity

A caller reported finding suspicious items left in the back of their U.S. Highway 2 store, including a pillowcase containing a satellite television receiver. Authorities investigated whether the receiver was stolen.

7:07 p.m.

Animal complaint

A Norman Avenue resident reported two dogs barking incessantly. The dogs’ owner was with the animals, but did not stop them. The barking encouraged the caller’s dog to bark as well.

7:59 p.m.

Criminal mischief

A Utah Avenue resident reported a group of teenagers throwing candy at her window. They were described as wearing dark clothing. There was no damage to the window.

8:33 p.m.

Scam

A West 2nd Street resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

10:32 p.m.

Suspicious activity

A Graves Creek resident reported they left their property with the gate locked. The lock was cut and the gate left opened upon their return.
