With the school year straight ahead, first-year Libby High School volleyball coach Samantha Hannah is ready to take over for teacher and coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnson, who stepped down last year.

Samantha Hannah said there will be some standout players who have the potential to leave their mark on the upcoming season.

“I am not sure who my standout players will be,” Hannah said. “I have Ashlynn Monigold who played libero last year; she is going to be a senior. Also, there is Mackenzie Proffitt, she will be the middle to look out for.”

Hannah said each team has its outstanding players and they will strive to reach their goals.

Because a group of outstanding seniors from last year graduated, there will be new faces to see, Hannah said.

“We are a new team for sure. However, the four incoming seniors have great experience and are phenomenal leaders on the team. As well as helping me grow as a coach too.” Hannah added.

She said the expectations this year for the team are to get them to their full potential and help them grow.

The first tournament of the season is the Butte tip-off Aug. 30-31 at the Butte Civic Center.

“I am excited for our first tournament to see how we play as a team and to try some different rotations with different girls to get some of our tweaks out the

way before conference matches.”

As this is Hannah’s first year teaching these girls, she said she will experience new things with the school and the students.

“My favorite part of the job is getting goosebumps and excitement watching the girls do well.” Hannah said.
